Victor Harbor SA 9/6/12 to 12/6/12

We travelled  to Victor Harbor via Wellington where you cross the Murray River on a punt. Once across the Murray we drove through the villages of Strathalbyn and Langhorne Creek; both very quaint.  These were some of Australia's first grape growing districts. We could tell this as we have all become quite knowledgeable on grape farms and grape farmers.

The caravan park was quite busy, which is not what we are used to. It was the Queen's Birthday long weekend so lots of South Aussie's had obviously headed for the coast. Not surprising as Victor Harbor is a beautiful beach town.   We walked up the Bluff to get some amazing views of the town and area, climbing over some pretty big boulders to get to the top. The town is on the rolling hills looking out over Encounter Bay.  It reminded us of a coastal English village.

We decided to walk into town one day. We passed markets on the way where the boys managed to find the forth Harry Potter book. Two very stoked boys. Nate gets to read first as it only takes him a couple of days to finish the book.  We walked across to and around Granite Island which has a horse draw carriage that takes passengers across the bridge to the island.  We chose to walk both ways as it was a beautiful day. Later back in town we visited the The Whale Centre, which was very informative. The kids had a questionnaire to fill out there (another school lesson - yeh).

On our second morning we woke up to ice on the car.  Apparently it was -1 overnight and we were not surprised as it was the coldest night we have had in the van since leaving home. Later we drove out onto Hindmarsh Island to see where the Murray meets the Ocean.

One of the days we drove into Port Elliot. Very touristy little town on the water. Climbed some more rocks and saw some seals off Pullen Island.

We spoke with Darren, Tanya, Rachel and Ryan McSorley on skype. It was great to talk to them and get some pointers for our travels. Great reference source as they have been traveling for over two years now.
